Blog Boosters – Making the Most of Your Blog’s Potential

In the quest to keep your blog as fresh and fun as possible, it can be easy to forget the awesome organic opportunities your site’s blog affords you. It is just as easy to incorporate high-quality keywords into your blog posts as it is to use any other word, so take the time to do a little research and keyword-vitamin-pack that post full of ranking potential!

Let’s assume your site sells fashion jewelry. You offer a shining assortment of sterling silver rings, necklaces, bracelets and earrings, and they are available complemented by a rich assortment of colored gemstones. The keywords you will focus on through on-site content will likely be a bit more broad – such as “sterling silver necklaces” and “silver gemstone necklaces”. These are very important keywords that are garnering the highest search volume, and you truly can’t afford to ignore them. However, after doing a bit of keyword research, you find that “summer jewelry” has been getting it’s fair share of the search pie. It’s nowhere near “sterling silver necklaces”, but it is quite timely, and a lot of what your site offers is perfect for the summer season. This is the ideal formula for a blog post topic – a keyword that might not be strong enough to devote an entire page of content to, but that is important to your business and ‘makes sense now’. People will be looking for summer jewelry, and it’s something you should cover in a blog post anyway, so be sure to highlight that term and complementary terms throughout your posts to both optimize and offer ideas.

What exactly are complementary terms? Imagine “summer jewelry” as the heading – the focus of the blog. After taking a look at your site, the three pieces that best scream “summer!” to you are your flip flop charms, butterfly rings and seashell earrings. Using your favorite keyword tool, search for these terms and see which variation of those terms is most popular. Then, just as you would any other term you’d use to describe those items, use the most popular term and make it the anchor text within your post. It’s easy, you were going to write the post anyway, and it only took a few more minutes of research. An added bonus? You now know a little more about your industry! Learning a little more here and there can really add up, whether it plays into your purchasing, or your ability to effectively communicate with your customers. Ya gotta love a win-win! :)
