I was searching online a few minutes ago for “how to prepare thanksgiving dinner”, as I moved into my first apartment a few month’s ago, and was lovingly nominated to host Thanksgiving dinner this year for my parents and relatives (greattt). I was logged in to my Google account, and was quite surprised to see something very new when I searched for turkey day help - I was able to move up my own search results!
Now, I have been able to do this in the past, but at the time Google had set it only influenced my own search results. This time, as soon as I vote a result up, I can see the number of other users who did the same! SEO is now even more important than ever- you still need to put your site’s listing right in front of searcher’s eyes, and make your listing as compelling as possible so they can move it up.
Only time will tell how this will truly affect the organic results - will my moving a result up also increase it’s rankings for other searchers? One thing’s for sure - the importance of having interesting, relevant content, trusted links pointing to your site, and a user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing design is a must-have in this new, more personalized search environment.
Wish me luck cooking my first Thanksgiving turkey!
