In the SEOmoz.org article, “The SEO Failings of Major UK Highstreet Retailers”, article author Tom_C examines the (lack of) SEO strategy of major UK brands. We may be miles away over here in the States, but learning from the mistakes of big UK brands is valuable to any online store out there.
The article goes on to note that popular brands are quick to engage in Pay-Per-Click campaigns and high spending media buy campaigns, but overlook SEO.
“Ah. I see. Not interested in the free traffic then, those pesky ragamuffin organic visitors always screwing up my analytics, BUYING THINGS and what not. Such a pain the neck,” sarcastically writes Tom_C.
Whether you’re a small business or an Inc 500 company, focusing on organic search traffic is vital to your business. Sure, the true investment of an SEO campaign is time, and as a business owner you may not have much of that these days, but the payoff is tremendous. After all, it’s free traffic to your site!
Here’s a quick tip to get you started. Be sure to optimize your site’s Title Tags, the words in the blue bar at the top of your Internet browser for your homepage and at least each section page. It’s important to include the name of your site as well as a keyword you would like to rank for on that specific page. If you’re optimizing a relaxing zen gardens section page, don’t talk about the rock garden fountains in the zen garden page’s Title Tag!
